What can an ancient fairytale teach us about how people recover?
Since April 2016 I have been researching variants of the story "The Handless Maiden" (you can read one version of it here), a huge, enigmatic tale about a girl whose father cuts off her hands in order to save himself from a bad deal. The story describes how she travels to find a place of safety in a wild forest, marries a king, learns to create and in the process heals herself.
Our first event "Show your hands" was a handwashing ritual performed at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on 13 May 2016. If you want to know more about the project get in touch at oneseptemberart@gmail.com.

The second part of the project is an urban pilgrimage around the city of Liverpool between 5pm, 19 May 2017 - 2am 21st May 2017.
There will be a third, final part which is in development during 2018.
